RYZR
Stop scrolling when you first wake up. RYZR blocks the apps you choose when your alarm rings, so the first minutes of your day are yours.
RYZR for iPhone. Requires iOS 26 or later. Version 1.0.3 introduces 7 days of full access with no payment details, charge or automatic renewal, followed by an optional one-time lifetime unlock. The current App Store version may still show the earlier monthly and annual plans until the update is released. Those purchases remain supported and restorable.
How it works
- Set your alarm and choose which apps to lock.
- When the alarm rings, those apps are blocked.
- They unlock at the time you set, or sooner once you finish one small First Move.
The point isn't to lock you out of your phone. It's to put a few deliberate minutes between waking and the feed, so the first decision of your day is yours rather than an algorithm's.
There's also an emergency unlock that asks nothing of you. No guilt message, no streak to forfeit, nothing to earn back. Some mornings genuinely need the phone, and an app that punishes you for that has stopped being a tool.
What's in it
A First Move that feels like you
Choose the small morning action you'll actually repeat: step outside, 50 steps, 5 air squats, 3 press ups, 5 star jumps, drink water, say your wake statement, or send a good-morning message. Morning light is the strongest signal for your body clock, and regular movement can reinforce it.
A wake rhythm that fits your week
Set different weekday and weekend wake times while keeping your overall pattern steady, for example a weekend that starts thirty minutes later rather than three hours later. If you want to know why that gap matters, I've written about weekend lie-ins and social jet lag.
Evening wind-down
Block distracting apps at night so tonight protects tomorrow, with an optional calm close: a ninety-second breathing guide, or noting up to three good things from the day. It doesn't unlock anything. It just marks the day done.
Progress without streak pressure
See your wake rhythm, how much time your chosen apps stayed blocked, and quiet notes about what's working. A difficult morning never erases the mornings you completed, because the reset-to-zero streak mechanic backfires and the evidence supports recovery over perfection.
Built on research, made for real mornings
A Monash University-led study of 60,977 people found that more regular sleep patterns were linked with lower mortality risk, and predicted risk more strongly than sleep duration did. Getting enough sleep still matters.
RYZR helps with one practical part of sleep regularity: keeping a wake time you can realistically follow. It is not a sleep tracker, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and the research above is observational, which I explain in full in what the wake-time evidence actually says.
Who built it
I'm Paul Calver, a Precision Nutrition Certified Master Health Coach and an iOS developer with 15 years of experience. As a coach, I built RYZR to make a consistent wake time easier to put into practice, even when you wake tired. It's one of three humane health apps I'm building, all held to the same filter: a feature ships only if it increases evidence, perspective or agency for the person using it.
Privacy and support
Your alarms, your app selections and your morning history stay on your iPhone. The privacy policy explains the limited purchase, trial-validation and anonymous usage information that leaves your device. The support page covers permissions, alarms, the 7-day trial, lifetime access and restoring an earlier purchase. Anything else, email paul@paulcalver.com and you'll get a reply from me.
