Oddlings privacy policy

Your saved collection lives on your device. Creating an image or video in the cloud sends an image and prompt to the services that make it. Oddlings is not an entirely on-device service.

Who is responsible

Paul Calver, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom, is responsible for the information processed to operate Oddlings. For privacy questions or requests, email paul@paulcalver.com.

Drawings and your local collection

You choose an image through Apple’s photo picker or take a photo after granting camera access. The saved collection can include the original and cropped drawing, generated image, optional video, name, date, analysis and generation settings or prompts. It is stored locally; Oddlings does not provide its own iCloud collection sync. Device backups may contain app data, depending on your Apple settings.

The app does not require you to enter a child’s name, age, school or profile. Please crop out identifying details and avoid uploading sensitive personal information. Use artwork you have permission to use.

What leaves the device for AI creation

• Cloud images: the cropped drawing, creation prompt and settings are sent to my service, hosted on Google Cloud, and to OpenAI’s image API to make the result.
• Moving Oddlings: the finished image and animation prompt are sent through my service to Vidu’s API to create the video.
• Apple features: if you choose on-device analysis, that analysis runs on your device. If you choose Apple Private Cloud Compute, the drawing is processed through that Apple service. Image Playground follows the Apple system interface and any provider choices or permissions shown there. Choosing Apple analysis does not make subsequent cloud image or video generation local.

Providers process requests under their applicable service terms and policies. See OpenAI’s business data information, Vidu’s API privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy. Oddlings does not promise that every provider has zero retention or that all processing takes place in the UK.

Server storage and interrupted creations

My service stores generation requests, results and some provider responses in private cloud storage to complete requests and recover interrupted creations. Recovery closes seven days after the request. The deployment configuration schedules these stored objects for deletion after seven days; cleanup is asynchronous, not an immediate deletion at that deadline.

The seven-day recovery window is not a deletion promise for every record. Job records can retain identifiers, timestamps, status, prompt templates or resolved prompt text, and diagnostic information. Purchase and allowance records and generation-usage records are kept separately to maintain balances, prevent duplicate charges or abuse, and understand operational costs. The current development system does not yet apply a fixed automatic deletion period to all of those records. Contact me about information held by the service.

Deleting a saved Oddling or uninstalling the app removes local data, but does not immediately delete server records, provider-held data, backups or copies you have exported. Provider retention is governed separately from my recovery storage.

Purchases and app verification

Apple handles in-app payments. Oddlings does not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account password. RevenueCat helps present and manage purchase options and receives a generated app-user identifier, transaction and entitlement information, and related app/device information. My service verifies Apple-signed app and purchase transactions and uses Apple App Attest to check that requests come from the app. It stores derived identifiers, purchase history, allowance balances and redemption records. These are pseudonymous identifiers, not a claim that the records are anonymous. They help link requests to the correct allowance and prevent repeat claims or duplicate use.

Diagnostics, feedback and email

Service providers may process IP addresses, request times, status codes and other technical records when handling network requests. My service records generation outcomes, provider/model information and numeric usage for reliability, security and cost management.

If you send in-app feedback, the feedback service receives your message and report type, app-verification evidence and any optional technical details you include, such as app version, iOS version, device model and language. Drawings and saved creations are not automatically attached. Email support receives your email address and anything you choose to send. This information is used to respond and investigate problems, not to publish your artwork.

Sharing, advertising and this website

Oddlings has no public gallery. When you share an image or video, you choose its destination in the system share sheet. The destination’s privacy practices apply to that copy. The current app has no advertising SDK or cross-app advertising tracking; purchase reporting and operational usage records still exist as described above.

These pages are hosted through Cloudflare, which processes network information to serve and secure the website. Contact links open your email app; there is no Oddlings mailing-list signup or artwork-upload form here.

Why information is processed

Information needed to deliver requested creations and purchases is processed to provide the service you request. Security, abuse prevention, operational diagnostics and responding to support rely on legitimate interests in running a reliable service. Records may also be retained where required for legal obligations. Optional camera access and system permissions are controlled through iOS; you can change them in Settings.

Parents and children’s artwork

Oddlings is intended for parents and carers to operate with children’s artwork. Adults choose what is submitted and shared. Artwork can contain personal information, so review it before requesting cloud generation. If a child has submitted personal information or you want information about a child removed, contact me.

Your choices and rights

You can delete local creations, stop submitting cloud requests, change permissions and contact me about server-held information. Depending on your circumstances and location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to receive a portable copy of information. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent. Some information may need to remain for purchase records, security or legal reasons.

Email paul@paulcalver.com with enough information to locate your request or transaction, without sending passwords or payment-card details. I may need to verify a request before acting on it. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.
